Past in the Future

Kristīne Priedīte × DAILE

€40

MINI300 pieceswithout glue kit

Nature and technology grow into one jungle. Red monkeys move through blue undergrowth that is half leaf, half wiring, and the past keeps returning in new forms. Kristīne Priedīte paints it in oil with a restorer’s patience, leaving the question open: what stays human when the two worlds merge?

About the artwork

Past in the Future grows a jungle out of circuitry. Red monkeys move through blue undergrowth that is half leaf and half wiring, and the painting never says which one is winning. Kristīne Priedīte trained in restoration at the Art Academy of Latvia and paints in oil with that discipline intact, which is why something this strange stays so composed.
At 1000 pieces it is demanding in the best way: the eye keeps mistaking a branch for a cable, and the picture argues with you the whole way through.
