This painting from the Eden series is dedicated to the contemplation and search for the source of delicate inner sensations of anxiety and sadness tied to beautiful, forgotten memories of a lost home. The theme of illusions and the quest for the unreal within reality has always been my favorite and central motif in my work. In this series, I delve into the viewer's feelings, exploring that part of consciousness where resides the awareness of something we once knew intimately but have since forgotten, as we became too engrossed in living our lives. This lost fragment of memory may, in fact, hold the utmost significance. This painting speaks of those exquisite memories that can no longer be found on the surface, yet their echoes unexpectedly resurface as feelings and sensations of something beautiful within.

Artist

Dina Zakmane

Dina Zakmane is a contemporary Latvian painter whose work listens closely to memory. Her canvases trace the quiet edge between the real and the imagined soft fields of color, gentle transitions, and a mood that feels like a thought returning. In the Eden series she explores the afterglow of places we’ve lost: the way a home, a season, or a feeling keeps living inside us as light. Zakmane’s language is restrained yet emotive; layers of oil and finely tuned tones become a space for reflection, calm, and renewal.
