Lovers in the Shadows
by Valeria Secret
Original painting, 2025
Acrylic on canvas, 130 × 97 cm
Cinematic noir atmosphere with a mysterious couple and a vintage red car
About the work
“They say every city hides its own secrets. For them, it was love – forbidden, dangerous, yet impossible to resist. No one knew where they came from or what they were running from. The deal was done, the engine still warm, and the smoke in the air carried more than just the scent of cigars. It carried the promise of silence and of one last goodbye.”
Here, Valeria freezes that moment between escape and consequence. The couple’s faces are partly hidden, their bodies relaxed but alert, as if they are both celebrating and saying farewell. The red car becomes a symbol of speed and temptation, while the long shadows and glowing highlights turn the scene into a modern noir – intimate, stylish and edged with danger.

The artist
Valeria Secret
Valeria Secret (b. 1995) is a Russian-born, Marbella-based contemporary artist whose work blurs the line between fantasy and reality. She combines elements of high fashion, cinema, luxury objects and urban nightlife with a sensual, surreal twist. Her paintings feel like stills from a movie you want to pause and live inside for a moment longer.
Valeria is a self-taught artist known for vivid color palettes, realistic figures and dreamlike, cinematic scenes. She often places her characters in worlds where glamour and danger quietly coexist: tailored suits and red lipstick, chrome details and moonlit streets, expensive cars and whispered secrets. Through her work she explores desire, identity and the thin border between passion and risk, inviting viewers to step into the story and decide for themselves what happens next.
A love story written in smoke and chrome
“Lovers in the Shadows” feels like a paused movie frame – the moment just after something irreversible has happened. A secret deal, a promise, a goodbye that tastes like smoke and gasoline. Valeria captures not just two figures, but the electricity between them: trust, danger and the thrill of choosing love over safety.
