Staz Li “Yin-Yang Horses”
by Staz Li
“Yin-Yang Horses” shows two horses – one dark, one light – standing close together, their bodies touching or almost touching, both looking straight out from the canvas. The background is kept simple so that all attention falls on their contrast: black against white, shadow against light, two energies forming a single, calm presence.
About the work
This image came to the artist on a summer day, very vivid and clear: two horses, one black and one white, side by side, looking straight at us. As always, Staz Li took the idea to the canvas quickly, before it could fade or “run out of time.” The title and meaning appeared only later, during the painting process, as suddenly as the first vision: “Yin-Yang Horses.”
For the artist, the work speaks about the duality of existence. Black and white are not enemies here; they are two parts of one whole. Good cannot exist without bad, just as bad cannot exist without good. If life were only light, we would lose the ability to recognise and value it – there would be nothing to compare it with.
The two horses stand together as if they have accepted this truth. They do not fight each other; they coexist. The painting quietly suggests that we should not resist difficulties at all costs. Very often, challenges are simply a sign that something important is approaching – that great success or happiness may be waiting just ahead. “Yin-Yang Horses” becomes a reminder that both parts of life belong, and that balance is found not in removing the dark, but in learning to stand beside it.

The artist
Staz Li
Staz Li is a contemporary artist drawn to archetypal symbols and clean, powerful compositions. In her work, animals – especially horses – become mirrors for human emotion and inner states. She often starts from a very clear inner image and then lets the meaning reveal itself during the painting process, allowing intuition to lead and logic to follow.
Staz Li’s paintings are minimal in elements but rich in meaning. She prefers strong contrasts, symbolic colour and clear, frontal poses that meet the viewer’s gaze directly. Themes of duality, balance and inner growth appear again and again in her work: light and shadow, calm and tension, fragility and strength. Rather than illustrating a ready-made concept, she lets the painting gradually “name itself” while she works – and “Yin-Yang Horses” is a vivid example of this process.
Two horses, one whole life
“Yin-Yang Horses” is not about choosing sides. It is about recognising that both light and shadow stand together in every life. The black horse and the white horse look at us calmly, as if asking: will you keep fighting half of your experience – or will you finally let both parts stand side by side and work for you? The painting doesn’t glorify difficulties, but it does suggest that they often arrive hand in hand with future joy.
