"Pegasus" Karine Paronyanc

by Karine Paronyanc

In “Pegasus”, a powerful charcoal-like horse strides across swirling, luminous water in the foreground. Above it, a winged horse rears up against a glowing golden sun or moon – its wings spread wide in flight. To the left, a bright bird and coloured eggs appear among filigree white patterns; to the right, pink peonies and lace-like ornaments float at the painting’s edge. Circular motifs, bubbles and spirals dance through the scene, giving the whole composition a sense of motion and celebration.

About the work

“Pegasus” is a constellation of symbols in motion. The grounded, transparent horse holds the weight and rhythm of the earth, while the winged Pegasus rises towards a golden sphere, embodying aspiration and spiritual ascent. Karine describes Pegasus (from the Greek meaning “rapid current”), a fabulous Unicorn and a Magical Bird of Happiness as heroes of one wedding story – three horse-spirits united by a single purpose, with the nest and needle of life enclosed in a golden egg.

In the painting, those ideas unfold visually: the golden egg and bright orbs hint at beginnings and fragile happiness; the bird at the lower left becomes a messenger between water and sky; the ornamental lace and flowers frame the action like a ceremonial cloth. Swirling circles around the horses suggest currents of time and emotion, turning the scene into a blessing for movement, love and shared destiny.

“Pegasus” is both myth and personal talisman – a wish that grounded strength and soaring freedom can coexist in one life.

The artist

Karine Paronyanc

Latvia

Karine Paronyanc is a Latvian–Armenian painter from Riga, with a Master’s degree in monumental painting from the Art Academy of Latvia and further fresco and sgraffito studies in Florence. Since 2007 she has been a member of the Artists’ Union of Latvia and has held more than twenty solo exhibitions in Latvia and abroad. Her work is recognised for its rich ornament, symbolic narratives and a characteristic fusion of cosmic, botanical and mythological motifs.

Karine’s paintings are visionary story-worlds where horses, birds, planets, fruit and ornamental lace coexist in the same field of light. She uses colour, line and decorative pattern to build multilayered compositions that feel both festive and contemplative. Her “Pegasus” imagery continues a recurring interest in mythic creatures as carriers of human wishes, journeys and transformations.

“Through colour, light and ornament I share my delights and joy of existence.”
Karine Paronyanc

Where earth horse meets sky horse

“Pegasus” brings together two halves of the same power: the horse that feels every step of the earth beneath its hooves, and the horse that grows wings and lifts off into light. Around them, eggs, flowers, a bird of happiness and golden circles turn the scene into a blessing – a wedding of movement, love and possibility. It is a painting for moments when you feel called both to stay strong where you are and to dare something higher.

For those who believe that real freedom is born when strength on the ground and dreams in the sky finally recognise each other.
