Digital Art Story

Latvian summer I

by Amalija Andersone

A long garden table stands outside in the heart of July, surrounded by flower beds spilling over with colour. The air feels warm and fragrant; plates and glasses are ready, but the guests have not yet arrived. Soft northern light stretches the day, washing the scene in gentle greens, pinks and summer whites.

About the work

“Latvian summer I” is that moment when someone says, “Let’s take this outside,” and suddenly the whole day turns into a quiet celebration. Painted at the peak of the season, the work captures a lush garden in full bloom, a table waiting to be dressed, and the soft promise that friends will appear any minute and the evening will last far longer than the clock suggests.

It isn’t just a pretty summer scene; it’s a memory field. Flowers, air and colour are abundant, but nothing is rushed. The painting holds the in-between moment before the gathering — slow, generous time where the “ordinary” becomes the thing you miss most when summer is gone.

The artist

Amalija Andersone

Amalija Andersone is a Latvian visual artist, photographer and set designer whose world is unapologetically colourful. She works across creative food and product photography, large-scale murals and a bright, storytelling painting practice for clients across Europe and beyond.

Amalija loves beautiful things, bold colour, big canvases and good food – and her art often feels like all of those joys gathered in one sunlit room. Raised on fairy tales about explorers, distant lands and princesses, she now travels and paints those stories: from desert nights and island summers to intimate moments at home. “Latvian summer I” is her love letter to the season in Latvia – floral, generous and full of quiet celebration.

“Some days are so beautiful they feel ordinary while they’re happening. Only later you realise they were the real celebrations.”
Amalija Andersone

A window into a Latvian July

“Latvian summer I” feels like opening a window and stepping straight into a garden afternoon: table outdoors, flowers everywhere, warm air that smells like berries and grass. Nothing dramatic happens here – and that is exactly the point. The painting honours those long, light evenings when conversation drifts, plates refill, and time slows down just enough to feel how good it is to be together.

For people who want their walls to remember every small summer that felt like a celebration.
