Karine Paronyanc is a Latvian - Armenian painter based in Riga, known for her luminous, symbol-rich canvases where the sun, cosmos, nature and city quietly intertwine. A graduate of the Latvian Academy of Arts (monumental painting), she has held more than twenty solo exhibitions in Latvia and abroad and is a longtime member of the Latvian Artists’ Union. Her motto, “Art with a BIO tag”, reflects her care for life, nature and the rhythms that connect them.

Karine’s work lives somewhere between fairy tale and architecture. She draws on Armenian miniature traditions, cosmic symbolism and the decorative richness of Riga’s Jugendstil to build paintings that feel like illuminated stories. Golds, deep blues, emerald greens and intricate ornaments weave together into scenes where peacocks, fruit, rooftops and celestial signs become carriers of memory, warmth and quiet celebration.

“Once Upon a Time in Riga” is a love letter to a city told through the language of a bird. The peacock, long associated with beauty, myth and celebration, unfolds a whole world in its tail: fragments of architecture, echoes of Jugendstil facades, secret courtyards and sun-touched domes. Armenian ornamental thinking meets Riga’s skyline, turning the city into a shimmering tapestry of memories.

Warm lights in the windows suggest evenings of conversation and music; tram lines hint at everyday movement, routines and returns home. Yet everything is slightly enchanted, as if seen in a storybook.
